MISSION STATEMENT: Our primary responsibility is to prevent loss of life and property for the towns of Florosa, Wynn haven Beach, and Sea Shore Village, through fire suppression and medical aid.
Florosa Fire Control District is an all volunteer fire dept. that covers the west end of Okaloosa County, FL. from Hurlburt Field Air Force Base to the Santa Rosa County Line. The Florosa Fire Dept. proudly protects 6000+ people living in our area. We operate out of one station, located on Highway 98, that protects a primarily residential area but covers the 7 mile stretch of 98, one of the busiest highways in the state of Florida. We have 25 highly trained volunteers that are mostly EMT.
The majority of our calls pertain to motor vehicle crashes along the 7 mile stretch of US Highway 98, thus the nickname "West County Wrecking Crew". We also serve as mutual aid for Okaloosa County and Santa Rosa County.
During Fire Prevention week, we visited both the Florosa YMCA and the Florosa Elementary School to ensure that the children were educated about Fire Prevention. The volunteers go out of the way for the people we protect, in including the Santa Run, Easter Bunny and many other community related events. Last year we ran over 570 calls.
Currently all members of the Wrecking Crew are enrolled in the Florida Firefighter I course and the NREMT First Responder Course.
